Faye López, a native of Missouri, began playing piano at age 4. She received piano instruction through age 16 from her mother, Flora Springer. During elementary and high school, she accompanied for school and church functions, and as an older teen, she was involved in various musical ministries, accompanying traveling groups, Christian television and radio programs, and arranging choral music.
Faye received her bachelor’s degree in sacred music and master’s degree in piano performance from Bob Jones University. While at Bob Jones she was an arranger and accompanist for the Show My People television choir. She studied composition with Dr. Dwight Gustafson, orchestration with Joan Pinkston, and piano with Laurence Morton.
After marrying Steve López, the couple served on the music staff of The Wilds Christian Camp. During their tenure at The Wilds, the Lopezes along with Mac and Beth Lynch started a music-publishing arm of The Wilds, which is still active today. Later, they were involved in church music ministry in Indiana and North & South Carolina.
Faye is a retired college music educator. She has over 600 published compositions and arrangements with Alfred, Fred Bock (Epiphany), Hal Leonard, Hope, Lillenas, Lorenz, Majesty Music, Shawnee Press, Soundforth, The Wilds, and several other music publishers. She has contributed to numerous cantatas, recordings, piano and choral collections, and has arranged over thirty piano collections of her own. She has recorded seven piano solo albums.
Steve and Faye are looking forward to spending much more time during retirement with their married children, Jen (Mark) Whitcomb and Mark (Catherine) López, and their seven delightful grandchildren.
